about
Long story short...
I was adopted between the ages of 4-6 months, now at the age of 25 I have discovered my birth family.
The lyrics of this song are a brief overview of my life, beginning from how difficult it would have been for both mothers (birth mother and adopted mother) in this situation to how difficult I have found it in later years.
The chorus depicts how I feel now. The song comes from a place of love and understanding but also pain and re-evaluation.
I hope this song can help someone out there.
Sometimes I feel like my life is a soap drama, I've been searching for normality for so long. I have given up on my expectation of normal and am embracing all of the highs and lows.
This song has given me the chance to be more honest and open about something I find really difficult to talk about and pick apart but going forward I hope to be better at this in my songwriting.
lyrics
Born to another,
Different names from two mothers,
Couldn't know how they suffered,
The truth lay uncovered.
And too young to know,
Soon to discover...
Fears of rejection,
Dots that don't make connections,
Just tryna live in the present,
But needing answers to the questions.
And too young to know,
Soon to discover...
Free to be all I dreamed I could be,
With or without you,
I'm gonna make it through,
Because I've got to.
Raised in religion,
Blind faith and no decisions,
Sick of existing not living,
So I ran away from your systems.
And too young to know,
Soon to discover...
Only time can tell,
wishing upon a well.
A source of growth,
Strength unknown,
Too young to know,
But now you're brave and...
Free to be all I dreamed I could be,
With or without you,
I'm gonna make it through,
Because I've got to.
Free to be all I dreamed I could be,
With or without you,
I'm gonna make it through,
Because I've got to.
